New Zealand has introduced a revised policy regarding work visas for international students upon graduation. Let's delve into the details of these changes with your senior classmate.

Post-Study Work Visa Requirements

1️⃣ For students studying at Level 7 degree or above: They must complete a minimum of 30 weeks of full-time study in New Zealand.

2️⃣ For students studying non-degree programs at Level 7 or below: They must complete all their studies within New Zealand, and their qualification must be on the list of acceptable qualifications for post-study work visas. Additionally, they must secure employment in an occupation related to their field of study that is listed on the Immigration Green List.

Occupations on the Immigration Green List:

1️⃣ Construction Project Manager
Project Builder
2️⃣ 12 specific engineering roles
3️⃣ Civil Engineering Technician
Electrical Engineering Technician
4️⃣ Secondary School Teacher
5️⃣ Early Childhood (Pre-primary School) Teacher
6️⃣ Automotive Electrician
7️⃣ Diesel Motor Mechanic

Duration of Post-Study Work Visa

The length of the post-study work visa depends on the qualification (level of study) you achieve after studying in New Zealand and the duration of your study.

👏🏻 Upon completing a Level 9 or Level 10 qualification with over 30 weeks of full-time study, you can apply for a 3-year Open Work Visa.

👏🏻 For Level 8 or lower qualifications, the duration of your work visa will match the length of your study. The Immigration New Zealand will determine the visa duration based on your offer letter. For instance, if your offer letter states that your program requires 32 weeks of study, your work visa will also be for 32 weeks.

Note: Failing a course or taking longer to complete your studies than stated in your offer letter will not extend your work visa duration.

Number of Post-Study Work Visa Applications

Each applicant is eligible for only one post-study work visa; there are no second chances for a second post-study work visa.

👍🏻 If you're considering working in New Zealand, studying there might be a viable path to achieve your goal.
